Purpose of this Resource
Socrative is a fun and effective tool for teachers to do assessments for learning. Teachers can create a variety of online interactive games, in any subject, to evaluate, challenge and observe student’s learning process and understanding. Socrative allows teachers create quizzes, multiple choice, true or false, and/or short answers for students to answer on school IPads/Chromebooks or IPhones (depending on the age group). The teacher can see in real time what the students are answering as they do the tests. Another great feature is the space race option which allows teachers to assess students in a fun and engaging way. In groups or individually, students answer multiple choice and true or false question and race to the finish line.
Benefits for Students
Socrative allows students to practice and revise what they have been learning in a fun and interactive way. Students cannot see each other’s answers, which allows students to answer questions without the fear of being wrong and humiliated. After answering the questions, students can see what they got wrong or right, which allows them to see what they need to keep revising and/or ask questions about. Socrative includes fun activities, such as the space race, which turns a quiz into a game that all students can have fun with and learn at the same time!
Benefits for Teachers
Teachers are always searching for ways to make their lessons fun, interactive and engaging for all their students. Socrative allows teachers to do so. Teachers can create their own quizzes, multiple choice, true or false and short answer questions for specific units and topics. There are also exit tickets, quick questions and more that teachers can use to get some feedback from the classroom. Socrative even contains a virtual classroom (up to 50 students for the free version) to keep everything organized and in one spot without having use a bunch of paper! Also, whenever students answer any of the questions, in any activity, Socrative keeps track of all the marks and shows the teacher which questions the class didn’t answer as well so they can be reviewed. It also allows the teacher to keep track of their students’ progress or lack of.
Limitations
One limitation this resource has is that every student needs an iPad/Chromebook or iPhone to use the app. Unfortunately, schools and students who don't have access to these devices can't use this tool. Also, if a teacher wants to use Socrative with more than 50 students, they would have to upgrade, which comes with a yearly cost.
Relevance Technology is quickly becoming a big part of the classroom and can be very useful for learning/teaching if the right technology/tools are picked. Socrative is a fun, hands-on, interactive way of teaching, which I believe can greatly benefit teachers and students! Website link https://www.socrative.com/
